Bryan Kohberger to Plead Guilty: Families Heartbroken as Death Penalty Dropped

By - Mahi

Bryan Kohberger, accused of killing four University of Idaho students, plans to plead guilty to avoid the death penalty.

The victims’ families, especially Kaylee Goncalves’ loved ones, are deeply hurt and outraged by the unexpected plea deal.

Prosecutors told the families about the deal through email and letters, leaving them shocked, emotional, and searching for answers.

The Goncalves family had clearly said they were against any plea deal—but despite their efforts, the agreement moved forward.

A court hearing was scheduled for Wednesday. The family has asked for a delay so they can be there and speak from the heart.

At the time of the murders, Kohberger was a criminology student. He was seen near the victims’ home several times before the killings.

Even with DNA evidence from the crime scene, his lawyers argued autism should protect him from the death penalty—but failed.

Kaylee’s younger sister Aubrie wrote, “He still gets to live and talk. Our loved ones don’t. That truth breaks us every single day.”
